Why Join FAQ

Why Join Triangle Fraternity?

The question of whether to commit to joining any Fraternity is a serious consideration for any college student. For those in the fields of science and engineering, it may be a particularly difficult decision due to the challenges involved in such demanding majors. We hope to alieviate some of your concerns and answer some of your questions on this page.

Triangle: Not your typical Fraternity

Triangle, as a discipline specific, social fraternity with a professional focus, has aims and goals that differ slightly from a traditional fraternity. As a full IFC member, Triangle still enjoys the benefits of association with other Greek organisations, while maintaining an orginal character. As a group, Triangle encourages, for want of a better word, "fun", but will always hold responsible social events and we encourage all our members to socialise responsibly in all situations. In Triangle, we take our values and ethics seriously.

Triangle Men: Not your typical "Frat Boys"

Nationwide, the Men of Triangle take pride in achievement, whether it be academic, personal devlopment or professional. UCI Triangle is no exception. We encourage balance: studies, work, development and last, but certainly not least, fun should all be integral parts of your college experience. At UCI Triangle, we are looking to recruit studious men, but men interested in developing lasting friendships and strong interpersonal skills. By breaking from the traditional "Frat Boy" image, Triangle Men aim to distinguish themselves in any field they choose, while still having agreat time along the way!

What can Triangle offer me?

Being a member of Triangle is all about creating opportunities. You will have:

  • Opportunity to form lasting friendships.
  • Opportunity to be involved in shaping and running your own organization.
  • Opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills.
  • Opportunity to excel academically.
  • Opportunity to join a nationwide network of engineers, architects and scientists.
  • Opportunity to participate in charitable and outreach activities

These are just a few of the specicifc benefits membership can bring. But it is always good to remember that you always get out what you put in.

But aren't Fraternities just paid friendship?

No! We can't be more emphatic than that. Sure, members are required to pay dues, but they should be thought of more as membership fees, albeit slightly more expensive than your average club on campus. One of the primary purposes of joining any Fraternity, Triangle included is to form strong and lasting bonds of friendship, however, this is not what dues are for. Dues run the Fraternity, just as membership fees run the local golf club - the issue of friendship transcends the money you pay, which is used for essential running expenses for the benefit of our members. Member development, IFC fees, recruitment, clothing and many more benefits are paid for using dues, friendship though, is not one of them!

Will I have time to see my other friends?

Definitely! Triangle, of course, is time consuming, but we encourage balance in all aspects of your life. Triangle should not prevent you from studying hard, playing musical instruments, playing sport, socializing with other friends or doing any activity that you enjoy.

I'm still nervous about the whole Fraternity thing...

Not a problem! Contact us at uci.triangle@gmail.com and we can answer your questions by email, or arrange to speak with you over the phone, or even better still, in person. It is also a good idea to come along to our rush events, or any other event we hold throughout the year, to get an idea about who we are and what we do. Hopefully we can answer any questions and allieviate any worries you may have. Rest assured that you will be joining a great group of guys with similar interests and goals, who all had similar questions before joining ourselves.
