History
Like those of most other fraternities, Triangle's beginnings came from the desire of some congenial college friends to extend their friendship, not only through college, but also for life. It was in the fall of 1906 that 16 civil engineering Juniors at the University of Illinois began the association that became Triangle Fraternity. These Founders based their organization on the principles of honor, friendship, character, brotherhood, courage, and ideals.
In 1909 the Illinois chapter brought a similar group from Purdue University into their fellowship and Triangle became a national fraternity. Despite limitation of membership to those whose studies are in technology and science, Triangle is a general social fraternity and a senior member of the National Interfraternity Conference. Triangle has continued to expand for the last 100 years, establishing colonies and chapters throughout the States.
At UC Irvine, Triangle was colonized by a select 17 good men, organized by the Nationals. In our first year, we took seat as the Academic Chair in the Interfraternal Council, raised money and awareness for the San Diego fire victims, and placed first in several Engineering Week events.
In our second year, we continued this tradition of excellence by taking the Greek Week Championship cup along with our beloved Phi Sigma Rho partners, and again placing first in many Engineering Week events, including the Rube Goldberg contest.
Triangle seeks members by program of study. Such restrictions are not based upon race, religion, color, or national origin. Course of study restrictions ensure a relatively homogenous group. Thus the brothers can help each other and support the environment for study that such curricula demand.
Having endured a century, Triangle is a strong bond of closely knit chapters throughout the United States. Leaders on the university and college campuses where it has chapters are proud to wear the Triangle badge. And a great many leaders in professional and industrial fields are equally proud of their fraternity heritage through membership in Triangle.
Triangle continually strives for success, whether it be academically, athletically, or socially. As leaders on campus and in the community, Triangle Brothers lead by example and are involved in many campus organizations.
